SMILE Spatula

Description

Small Incision Lenticular Extraction (SMILE) procedures continue to grow as an alternative to other refractive procedures, such as Laser-Assisted in situ Keratomileusis (LASIK).  This new double-ended instrument is designed specifically for SMILE procedures.  It features a 3mm long Sinskey Hook with a conical tip on one end and a strongly vaulted spatula with a 1mm wide disc-shaped tip on the other.  The surgeon uses the modified Sinskey to identify, dissect and enter the corneal tunnel incision.  Once opened, the disc tip with the beveled edge is used to follow the incision path along the corneal curvature dissecting above the lenticule in one pass and under the lenticule in the second.  It is recommended that the K 5-7550 Endothelial Forceps be used to remove the dissected lamellar tissue.
